The course is shorter when delivered as a lecture, and longer if I build in exercises so students can begin writing up their own research projects.
Cost
My standard rate for teaching is 1530 CHF/Euro per day, or 1000 CHF/Euro per half-day. A full day of teaching includes 6 hours of teaching in the classroom, excluding breaks (e.g., coffee, lunch). For work outside Switzerland, clients also pay travel expenses.
This course can be taught alone or in combination with other core courses to create a full-day or multi-day program.
The writing process can begin as soon scientists formulate their research question. Writing should proceed during data collection and analysis: a properly organized paper is more than half finished by the time analysis is complete. In this course, I show participants how to use paper or electronic lab notebooks to keep detailed track of methods and results. I also explain how to integrate medical and health research checklists (equator.org) and to use them as guides for reproducible research design and accurate reporting. I briefly cover the legal status of lab notebooks and data repositories and other research documents, and the importance of preserving excellent records in case of auditing. In the longer version of the course, students will write most of their Methods and Results sections and have a clear list of writing tasks they need to accomplish.
